If the idea of kayaking for free and helping the environment at the same time appeals to you while on vacation, you should head to Hamburg, Bergen and Copenhagen. GreenKayak, a Danish NGO that aims to reduce the amount of waste in rivers and lakes, has just launched new locations in these cities where kayakers can borrow two-person sit-on kayaks free of charge, in exchange for collecting waste on the surface of the water. It also asks its volunteers to share their experiences from the kayak on social media with the hashtags #greenkayak and #miljøkajakken. Plastic waste is a huge problem in countries around the world, and many are taking initiatives to combat environmental pollution it causes, as is the travel industry. GreenKayak also has existing locations were kayaks can be borrowed in Aarhus, Odense and Præstø. The kayaks are highly effective at collecting waste because they are extremely flexible and can get close to areas that are otherwise hard to reach.
