Local business Knappy Hair Extensions pushes entrepreneurship, featured in blockbuster film

BAKERSFIELD,Calif. — A local entrepreneur is leaving her mark in Bakersfield and Hollywood with her homegrown business, Knappy Hair. Now, she is encouraging other women to do the same and follow their dreams. Keandra Sandifer or KJ is the owner of Knappy Hair Extensions, which celebrities like Oprah Winfrey and Serena Williams have been styled in. The company specializes in natural hair extensions and products for women, especially African American’s. Sandifer says she is changing the once derogatory term Knappy Hair and reclaiming it as a positive one. “Knappy Hair stands for natural hair redefined,” Sandifer said. “We have been able to align that with the mission of my business, which is helping women, specifically black women with their hair. There are a lot of struggles around their hair and unfortunately, that stems back to generations. So, I have been able to just connect with women on a personal level and provide them a product.” Knappy Hair is now a global business and Sandifer makes it her mission to encourage other entrepreneurs to take that leap of faith. “What someone can do today to start, is to get clear on their intentions of w...

Brickhouse Frozen Products featured in state newsletter

The most recent Meat Messenger newsletter, which is written by the North Dakota State Meat and Inspection Program and published through the North Dakota Department of Agriculture, notes that Brickhouse Frozen Products LLC recently became the fourth selected establishment to participate in the Cooperative Interstate Shipment (CIS) Program. The Brickhouse Frozen Products facility in Jamestown produces nine varieties of Jonny B’s Frozen Pizzas. The handmade restaurant-style pizzas are sold at grocery stores, bars, gas stations and hotels locally and throughout the eastern half of North Dakota, according to Becky Schultz, secretary-treasurer, Brickhouse Frozen Products LLC. The approval for the CIS Program means Brickhouse Frozen Products may produce high-quality meat products under the overview of the North Dakota inspection program and ship the products across state lines, the newsletter said. Brickhouse Frozen Products produces almost 4,000 pizzas per week at the frozen manufacturing facility. “We are a Pride of Dakota member and are very excited on being able to expand our territory as many folks have inquired on receiving our product,” Schultz said. “Se...

Anderson: Hunting and fishing TV shows are still changing

Beginning in 1965 and continuing through 1986, “The American Sportsman” was broadcast on ABC, hosted by Curt Gowdy. Gowdy was an outdoorsman and broadcast journalist who stumbled across the show’s concept when ABC sent him to Argentina to fish with world famous angler Joe Brooks. The segment was slotted in an episode of ABC’s “Wide World of Sports.” “The public reaction was so strong a new series was born,” Gowdy, who died in 2006 at the age of 86, later recalled. At its core, “The American Sportsman” was a call to adventure that reflected and validated the interests of its viewers, while also transporting them, vicariously, to places they might never visit. In those respects, the show was a film version of American outdoor storytelling that began around campfires in the 1700s. So much has happened in the centuries since, particularly in the past 50 years, that Gowdy might not recognize the outdoors broadcasting “industry.” Now, as many Minnesotans settle in for a long winter of more “watching” than “doing,” they’ll see changes among hunting and fishing shows. Some hosts are handing their “star” duties to sons or daughters. And more outdoors viewing options than ever are availab...

ONE of the loveliest things about having a dog is the daily – or thrice-daily, in some cases – occasion to walk them. Dog walking is one of life’s simple pleasures: an opportunity to enjoy some fresh air, a pre-work wake-up call, a way to decompress at the end of the day and the chance to give your beloved pooch some much-needed exercise. Dog leads are essential kit in every dog owner’s life, and most dog owners tend to have a few on hand (one lives in the car, one is retractable, etc). Retractable leads are useful for owners who want to let their dogs go far to explore – but who still want the comfort of knowing their dog is on the lead (not everyone’s pup is amazing at recall, after all). Of course, just like collars and coats, the lead you choose typically comes down to comfort – for yourself and your dog – cost and aesthetics. From woven leads to leather ones, hands-free leads to training leads, here are the top leads you can buy for your pup online now. This article and featured products have been independ...

GTY Technology’s Bonfire Featured in Ovum on the Radar Report

AUSTIN, Texas — GTY Technology Holdings Inc. (Nasdaq: GTYH) (“GTY”), a leading provider of SaaS/Cloud solutions for the public sector, announced today that its business unit, Bonfire Interactive Ltd. (“Bonfire”) has been recognized as an ‘On the Radar’ vendor by leading analyst firm, Ovum. On the Radar features vendors who bring innovative ideas, products, or business models to their markets. Ovum recognizes Bonfire for understanding and addressing the distinct priorities for public and private sector procurement teams. In the public sector, the majority of the bid and RFP process remains non-digitized, which poses significant risks for organizations. “These organizations are primarily concerned with compliance, governance, and fit with their unique processes. Several RFP portals enable posting and document aggregation, while very few actually bring the entire process online, offering the ability to manage, post, receive responses, evaluate, and award all in one platform,” said Terry White, Associate Senior Analyst, Ovum. “Bonfire uniquely delivers on these priorities.” The report also highlights the impact the Bonfire Strategic Sourcing solution demonstrates including an avera...

Blades have mattered to us for a couple of million years, the point from which the first worked Stone Age cutting implements and points have been dated. Which is to say, well before Neolithic man evolved into homo sapiens. That’s a long time for a tool to have served. In the meantime, we’ve slogged through the Bronze and Iron ages to arrive at a bewildering array of carbon- and stainless-steel alloys to craft the finest field knives. With few exceptions, the best hunting knives will be fixed blades with full tangs, meaning, the slab of steel from which the blade is fashioned will extend inside the length of the handle to add stability. These days, the blade-composition decision for the discerning hunter will be between carbon steel, which will corrode without care, and stainless steel, which can hold a blade longer but is far harder to sharpen. This little boy packs a punch. Benchma...
